A documentary on the oral traditions and cultural heritage of the Naga people with a focus on preserving indigenous heritage has been screened at the headquarters of the Assam Rifles at Laitkor, Shillong to foster empathy and strengthen social cohesion.
Directed by Parasher Baruah with concepts by Vibha Lakhera, the documentary — Weaves of Empathy: A Journey into Naga Oral History — explores the lived experiences of the Naga people through community elders and the younger generation, underscoring the importance of preserving oral histories and fostering mutual understanding.
The documentary beautifully captures the rich oral traditions, resilience and cultural heritage of the Naga people, inspiring empathy, reconciliation and the preservation of indigenous heritage.
The event was graced by Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command, as the Chief Guest, alongside Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, DG Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa, GOC 101 Area, senior officers of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, media personnel, families, students and distinguished citizens of Shillong.
A special highlight of the evening was the debut public performance of “Walk With Me” by the Assam Rifles Public School Choir. Emerging from Project Empathy’s Naga Oral History Project: Stories of Empathy, the song delivered a moving message of compassion, resilience and togetherness.
The screening reinforced the importance of preserving oral histories, fostering mutual understanding and celebrating the cultural diversity of the North East.
