The Gauhati University community has extended significant support to flood-affected people in Assam by contributing one day\u2019s salary of its teaching and non-teaching staff towards the Chief Minister\u2019s Relief Fund. The initiative raised Rs 25 lakh, which was formally handed over to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma by a university delegation led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta at Lok Bhawan on Sunday. The university has also undertaken several relief and humanitarian initiatives in flood-affected areas. It provided essential relief materials to 500 affected families in Sivasagar and Charaideo and distributed 5,000 educational kits to help children continue their studies despite the crisis. In addition to relief operations, Gauhati University has taken steps to protect Assam\u2019s cultural heritage from flood damage. Conservation experts and a scientific officer were deployed to flood-affected satras to assist in rescuing and restoring centuries-old Vaishnavite manuscripts damaged by floodwater and fungal growth. Appreciating the university community\u2019s efforts, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised both its humanitarian response and its contribution towards preserving Assam\u2019s historical and cultural heritage.
