PM Modi Unveils Sarvam Kaze India’s First Indigenous AI Smartglasses Debut at AI Impact Summit
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI teased its first foray into hardware with the unveiling of “Sarvam Kaze,” a pair of AI-powered smartglasses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the summit at Bharat Mandapam, became the first person to officially try the device during a walkthrough of the exhibition. Designed and built entirely in India, the sleek, black wearable is intended to move artificial intelligence away from digital screens and into real-world interactions. The device features integrated cameras and sensors that allow it to “listen, understand, respond, and capture” what the wearer sees in real-time, utilizing Sarvam’s homegrown AI models specifically optimized for Indian languages and use cases.
The announcement, shared by Sarvam AI co-founder Pratyush Kumar, highlights a significant milestone for India’s tech ecosystem as it enters the competitive global wearable AI market currently led by giants like Meta. Beyond its core functions, the Sarvam platform will allow developers to build custom experiences, potentially creating a versatile ecosystem for the hardware. While detailed technical specifications and pricing have yet to be fully disclosed, the company has confirmed that Sarvam Kaze is scheduled for a retail launch in May 2026. This debut aligns with the government’s broader “Viksit Bharat” vision, positioning indigenous innovation at the forefront of the global AI landscape.
