“Riyan Parag faces a new challenge as Sanju Samson joins Rajasthan – the opponent’s real strength is causing fear.”
For the past seven seasons, he was the asset of one team; this season, he is in the opposition camp. Who Chennai has bought is not a matter for the Rajasthan Royals to judge. The reason for Rajasthan Royals’ concern is just one man: on his day, he can tear apart any opposition, as proven in the T20 World Cup. That man is Sanju Samson.
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has already admitted that just as there is no alternative to Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, the same applies to Sanju Samson. It is impossible to fill the void left by Samson. Is Rajasthan Royals suffering from regret after letting such a star go? While time will tell, at this moment, the terror of the Royals has a name: Sanju Samson.
Having been a teammate for a long time, Samson now stands as an enemy. Having been identified as the “apple of the eye” for Rajasthan for seven years, Samson knows all the secrets of his old team. He is well aware of everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. That is precisely the cause of fear for Rajasthan. Added to that is the anger of leaving the team. Samson has the perfect stage to make the Royals management regret their decision.
Challenges for Riyan Parag
In the very first match, Riyan Parag faces a tough challenge. Furthermore, Riyan’s mentor, Rahul Dravid, is not with him. Managing established stars like Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jofra Archer, and Shimron Hetmyer in the dressing room will be another test for Riyan.
Last season was not promising for Riyan. He was equally responsible for the team’s defeat in several matches. If he does not perform better this season, it will be difficult for him to return to Team India. Along with his own concerns, the burden of leadership has now fallen on him.
Rajasthan’s batting base is quite strong. They have explosive openers like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Quinton de Kock (referred to as ‘Dev’ in the text). In the middle order, there are Riyan and Dhruv Jurel. Shimron Hetmyer is in the finisher role.
They have Ravindra Jadeja and Dasun Shanaka. However, returning to the team after almost 16 years, Jadeja is now at the end of his career and lacks his old magic. With Wanindu Hasaranga, Ravi Bishnoi, Jadeja, and Shanaka, the spin department is quite strong. The only problem will be pace bowling. Jofra Archer lacks a suitable partner; additionally, Archer is injury-prone. The experienced Sandeep Sharma seems out of form. Riyan will face problems regarding “death over” bowlers.
It remains to be seen how reliable players like Tushar Deshpande, Adam Milne, Nandre Burger, and Kwena Maphaka will be. The first match of the season is always a massive challenge.
