Sunil Gavaskar has not been able to easily accept the defeat of Gujarat Titans in the final. According to him, it was not right for the IPL final to be held on Sunday. Injustice has been done to Gujarat. While RCB (referring to Royal Challengers Bangalore, though likely a typo in the original text meant for CSK) got ample rest, Shubman Gill’s team did not even get 24 hours of time before entering the final. That is why, according to Gavaskar, the final match should have been held on Monday instead of Sunday.
After playing the second Qualifier on Friday, Gujarat arrived in Ahmedabad late Saturday night due to adverse weather. As a result, the players did not get adequate rest before the final.
Gavaskar says—”Players need rest. Everyone should know when the flight will take off and when it will reach Ahmedabad. Along with physical stress, the mental stress of the players also increases. There should be a reserve day kept for the final. In this case, the final could have been held on Monday. Then the Gujarat players would have also received extra rest. That is why I think injustice has been done to Gujarat.”
