Bridge Reconnects Strategic Damin-Huri Outpost
Road connectivity to the vital border outpost of Damin-Huri in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district was reestablished on Wednesday following the destruction of a key bridge by a flash flood earlier in the week. The bridge was lost on Monday, isolating the region and hindering the movement of residents, essential goods, emergency services, and security personnel. The local administration, under Deputy Commissioner Cheechung Chukhu, worked together with the 85 Road Construction Company of the Border Roads Organisation to construct a temporary log bridge, overcoming challenges posed by persistent rainfall and rough terrain.
The operation was deemed successful due to the collaborative efforts of engineering teams, officials, and the local community. A Quick Response Team assessed the damage in Damin-Huri and Parsi Parlo, engaging with affected families and distributing relief materials. Officials emphasized the importance of rapid restoration, particularly due to Damin-Huri’s strategic location near the international border. They urged residents to stay vigilant amid ongoing heavy monsoon rain and kept emergency restoration teams ready for any additional disruptions.
