Centre Bows To Pressure: Education Minister Resigns Hours Before 3rd Round Of Talks
The Central Education Minister was finally forced to bow down in the face of a month-long intense student movement. Amid the nationwide turmoil over exam irregularities and question paper leaks, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post. On Saturday, Pradhan sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Just a few hours before the scheduled 3rd round of talks between the Central Government and the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’, the outgoing Education Minister announced his decision via social media platform ‘X’. Announcing his resignation, Dharmendra Pradhan wrote in the post, “I have deep respect for the aspirations, feelings and legitimate expectations of the youth of the country. Realizing the dreams of India’s new generation is our moral commitment in political and social life.” He also expressed gratitude for getting the opportunity to serve the nation under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
It may be noted that the main demand of the protesting students who have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi for the past one month was the resignation of the Education Minister. The issue of the Education Minister’s resignation had also created a deadlock at the discussion table. On Saturday morning, CJP issued a clear message to the government in strong words, stating that it would not sit for any kind of talks until Dharmendra Pradhan was removed.
With the Education Minister’s resignation, the government accepted the protesters’ key demands. CJP founder Abhijit Deepak announced the decision from the stage at Jantar Mantar and said, “Our struggle has succeeded. Everyone said that no one resigns in this government, but we made it possible.” Meanwhile, as soon as the news of the Education Minister’s resignation spread, thousands of students present at the protest site were overwhelmed with joy. Reacting to the outcome of this movement that grew on social media, CJP posted a brief message: “Student Power Zindabad”.
