BCCI Monitors J&K Pacer Auqib Nabi After Record-Breaking Ranji Trophy Season Selection Left to National Selectors
Following an extraordinary Ranji Trophy campaign where he led Jammu & Kashmir to the title, pacer Auqib Nabi has firmly entered the conversation for a call-up to the Indian national team. Nabi finished the season as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 60 wickets in 10 matches, including a remarkable seven five-wicket hauls. His performance peaked during the knockout stages, where his spells in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final proved decisive. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that while local J&K selectors were responsible for bringing the Baramulla-born pacer into the state side, the national selectors have been present at domestic matches and are now closely monitoring his progress.
Saikia emphasized that the BCCI has established a system to ensure that talent from smaller regions does not go unnoticed, citing Nabi’s rise as a prime example. While acknowledging the widespread demand for Nabi’s inclusion in the Test squad, Saikia clarified that the final decision rests solely with the national selection committee. “The selectors will take a call,” Saikia noted, adding that they are tracking his performances as the board looks to reward domestic consistency. As India prepares for upcoming international assignments, Nabi’s record-breaking season has made him a top candidate for future selection.
