Asian Boxing Championship: 10 Medals for Indian Women
Indian women boxers have shone on the continental stage, topping the medal table. Every single woman boxer representing India at the Asian Boxing Championship held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, has won a medal; no one had to return empty-handed. Out of the ten medals won by India, there are 4 Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze.
A total of six boxers entered the finals in various categories.
- In the 48 kg category, Minakshi defeated Mongolia’s Namuun-Erdene Enkhjargal by a margin of 5-0 to give the country its first taste of gold.
- In the 54 kg category, Preeti defeated Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-wen by a 5-0 point margin.
- In the 57 kg category, Jaismine had to settle for a silver medal.
- In the 60 kg category, Priya defeated North Korea’s Won Un-gyong with a 5-0 margin.
- In the 70 kg category, Arundhati defeated Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seitdish by a margin of 4-1.
India also secured 4 Bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals. This marks India’s best-ever performance in the women’s division of the Asian Boxing Championship.
