‘To Invest in Football’: Messi Officially Takes Ownership of Cornella in Barcelona
Spanish football star Lionel Messi has officially purchased a club named Cornella. This club, based in a town of the same name in the Spanish province of Barcelona, currently plays in the Spanish fifth division. Club authorities officially confirmed this news on Sunday. The ownership of the club is now in Messi’s hands.
The club, Cornella, is located in the southwest of Barcelona city. Messi has had a long-standing relationship with this club for a long time. Even while playing for FC Barcelona, Messi’s connection with Cornella grew. After leaving Barcelona to join PSG and later Inter Miami, his communication with Cornella continued to increase.
In the 2021 season, Cornella created a sensation by defeating Atletico Madrid in the second round of the Copa del Rey. Although they were defeated in the third round against Barcelona, they played exceptionally well. Messi had been interested in acquiring the club since that time. Among those currently associated with Messi in this venture are his former teammate Jordi Alba and Barcelona’s legendary defender Gerard Piqué.
In the current season, Cornella is ranked third in the league table. There is a strong possibility of the team being promoted to the fourth division. Messi’s goal is to invest the wealth he has earned throughout his career into football by managing a club like this. He intends to start this investment with a club from the province where he spent most of his professional life.
