Competing as part of the Indian contingent at the prestigious 11th International Star Wushu Championship held in Moscow, Russia, Assam’s Amit Das and Manika Daley delivered impressive performances to finish on the podium.

Amit Das showcased exceptional skill and composure in the boys’ 56 kg Junior category. After a series of dominant bouts against competitors from across the globe, the Guwahati-based fighter emerged victorious in the final round to clinch the gold medal for India. His triumph underscores the growing strength of Assam’s wushu program at the grassroots level.

Joining him on the medal tally was Manika Daley, who put up a spirited display in the girls’ 52 kg category. Displaying strong technique and tactical awareness throughout the draw, Manika battled her way to the final before settling for a well-deserved silver medal. Her performance adds to a string of recent successes for women athletes from the Northeast on the international circuit.

The championship, which drew participants from several wushu powerhouses, was held from 15 April to 21 April 2026 in Moscow. Both athletes represented India under the banner of the Wushu Association of India and trained at local academies in Guwahati before the event.

Officials from the Assam Wushu Association congratulated the duo, stating that their success reflects the dedication of the athletes and coaches who have worked tirelessly despite limited infrastructure. The medals are expected to boost the sport’s popularity in the state and encourage more youngsters to take up wushu professionally.

With these results, Assam continues its tradition of producing international-level martial artists. The state government and sports authorities are likely to felicitate Amit Das and Manika Daley upon their return.
