Tennis stars Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff are speaking out against the French Open’s prize money distribution, calling it unfair despite a 10% increase to €61.7 million ($72.1 million). The players argue that the increase doesn’t reflect their contribution to the sport’s rising revenues, with Roland Garros generating $395 million in revenue in 2025.
The players’ share of revenue has dropped to 14.3%, far short of the 22% they’re requesting to match ATP and WTA tours. “The grand slams remain resistant to change,” the players said, criticizing the lack of engagement on player welfare and consultation.
The French Open starts May 24 in Paris, with singles champions earning €2.8 million and runners-up €1.4 million. However, players say “the underlying figures tell a very different story,” pointing to a growing gap between tournament revenues and player earnings.
