Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) breathed a sigh of relief after Sanju Samson returned to the pavilion. However, they perhaps could not have anticipated what the situation would be in the subsequent overs. Will Warne (referenced as ‘Urbile’ in text) unleashed a batting storm at Chepauk, shattering Lucknow’s hopes of victory. His explosive innings of 23 balls helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secure a win and set a record hat-trick.
By defeating Lucknow by five wickets, Chennai has climbed to the fifth position in the points table, strengthening their hopes for a playoff spot. Today, Warne completed his half-century in just 13 balls, which is now a joint record for the fastest fifty in IPL history (equaling Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 2023 record against KKR).
Warne hit three consecutive sixes in an over by Avesh Khan. In the next over against Digvesh Rathi, he again hit three consecutive sixes. He became the only batter in IPL history to hit six sixes within the first eight balls of his innings. At one point, he was at 41 runs off just 8 balls. By reaching 42 runs in 10 balls, he broke the record of AB de Villiers (who scored 41 runs in 10 balls in 2015). Batting first, LSG scored 203 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, fueled by Josh Inglis’s 85 runs and Shahbaz Ahmed’s unbeaten 43. Jamie Overton took 3 wickets, while Anshul Kamboj claimed 2. Chasing the target, CSK reached the goal in 19.2 overs with the help of Warne’s explosive 65, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 42, and Sanju Samson’s 28. Shahbaz and Rathi took 2 wickets each. Jamie Overton was named the Player of the Match.
