Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has highlighted the philosophy behind his team’s revolutionary, high-octane batting approach in T20 cricket. Speaking exclusively to TimesofIndia.com, Cummins emphasized that highly destructive batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan perform at their absolute peak when they are not micro-managed or restricted by rigid instructions. Noting that mediocrity is not an option with ten competitive teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Australian stalwart stated that his leadership style predominantly centers on simply “getting out of the way” to allow his players to express their natural, aggressive game and stand out from the pack.

The regular skipper also shed light on SRH’s successful IPL 2026 campaign, which has seen the franchise comfortably book a spot in the playoffs. Despite joining the team midway through the season due to his recovery from a stress injury, Cummins praised stand-in captain Ishan Kishan for seamlessly leading a young bowling group and maintaining the team’s ruthless identity. Under the unified vision of head coach Daniel Vettori and the management staff, Cummins noted that the leadership transition remained entirely fluid, ensuring that the team’s deep-rooted “take-no-prisoners” DNA continued to dominate the opposition regardless of who was officially calling the shots on the field.
