Achumbemo Kikon Calls for Environmental Stewardship at Rotary Club of Kohima Ceremony

Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland for SCERT and Food Processing, Achumbemo Kikon, has called for greater environmental stewardship, urging society to move away from short-term consumerism and embrace sustainable practices for the benefit of future generations.

Speaking as the guest of honour at the 24th installation ceremony of the Rotary Club of Kohima’s new Board of Directors, held at Hotel Japfü in Kohima on July 17, Kikon stressed that the present generation has borrowed the Earth from those yet to come. He encouraged Rotarians to promote environmental education and lead community-driven conservation initiatives to build a greener and more sustainable future.

In recognition of his public service and commitment to the values of Rotary, Kikon was inducted as an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Kohima. The new Board of Directors was installed by Charter President and Club Advisor Dr. Rosemary Dzüvichü. The leadership team for the new term is headed by President Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom, supported by Vice President Neingutuo Usou, Secretary N. Pipen Yanthan and Treasurer Kevisano Maria. Four new members also joined the club during the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Medom outlined the club’s priorities under Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and the global theme, “Creating a Lasting Impact through Rotary.” The club will focus on community outreach, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, cross-cultural collaboration and peace-building initiatives.

The programme also recognised community achievements, including the presentation of certificates to 20 women who completed the club’s tailoring training programme for 2025–26, highlighting Rotary’s continued commitment to community development and social empowerment.
