The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has cautioned education officials and school authorities in Eastern Nagaland against recommending or facilitating teacher transfers without ensuring proper replacements, citing an acute shortage of teaching personnel in the region. In a statement through its media cell, the federation said it respected the School Education Department’s March 24, 2026, notification regulating the procedure and timeline for teacher-transfer applications and clarified that it does not oppose the government’s transfer policy. However, ENSF said the continuing shortage of teachers across schools in Eastern Nagaland has raised concerns over any further reduction in teaching strength. The federation said it had repeatedly highlighted the issue before the authorities and sought adequate and equitable deployment of teachers to safeguard students’ academic interests. ENSF also said it had received information about teachers seeking transfers out of the region following the March 24 notification. It urged District Education Officers, Senior Sub-Divisional Education Officers, Sub-Divisional Education Officers, heads of schools and School Management Committees under its jurisdiction not to recommend, forward or facilitate transfer applications unless suitable relievers are made available. It stressed that particular attention should be given to cases where transfers could worsen the teacher-student ratio or disrupt school functioning. The federation has also asked its constituent units to monitor teacher-transfer cases in their respective jurisdictions. ENSF said its position was not intended to interfere with the statutory authority of the government or competent departmental authorities but was aimed at ensuring that implementation of the transfer policy does not further aggravate the teacher shortage in Eastern Nagaland.
