Rail services across Assam’s strategic hill section suffered significant disruption after the engine of the Silchar–Guwahati Express (Train No. 15615) derailed at the Badarpur Railway Bridge, causing widespread train delays and route cancellations throughout the region. Fortunately, railway officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported following the incident on the bridge, bringing relief to passengers and authorities alike. The derailment, however, severely impacted regional train schedules, forcing Northeastern Frontier Railway authorities to immediately cancel the Guwahati–Silchar Express (Train No. 15516) for the day. Additionally, several other passenger and express trains navigating through the hill section were halted at various intermediate stations along the route, temporarily cutting off critical rail connectivity between the Barak Valley and the rest of the state. Engineering teams and restoration personnel were swiftly dispatched to the accident site on the Badarpur bridge to clear the damaged track, re-rail the locomotive, and assess structural integrity. Sources indicated that intensive repair work is proceeding on a war footing and full restoration of the line is expected to be completed by this evening, allowing stranded train movements to resume safely. Railway authorities have issued advisories urging all commuters and traveling passengers to verify updated train schedules and track status through official railway announcements and inquiry portals before planning their journeys through the affected hill section route.
