KKR dealt major blow: Harshit Rana sidelined for IPL 2026
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have confirmed that their standout pacer, Harshit Rana, will miss the entire IPL 2026 season. The fast bowler is currently recovering from a serious ligament injury in his right knee, sustained during a warm-up match against South Africa prior to the T20 World Cup.
The injury was severe enough to require surgery and an extensive rehabilitation program, leaving KKR with a massive void in their bowling department.
Management Reacts
KKR Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar expressed the team’s disappointment, highlighting Rana’s growth over the last two years:
“It’s a huge loss. Harshit has been an integral part of this team… we will always miss him, but it’s not easy to replace him.”
The Search for a Replacement
With the season opener against Mumbai Indians scheduled for March 29, the KKR management is moving quickly to find a successor. Several notable names have been invited for trials and practice matches:
- Navdeep Saini
- Akash Madhwal
- Simarjeet Singh
- Sandeep Warrier
- KM Asif
Trials have already been conducted at Eden Gardens and in Mumbai under the supervision of scouting head Biju George and deputy Manvinder Bisla.
What’s Next?
Harshit Rana is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. While the team is evaluating its options, Nayar stated that an official announcement regarding the replacement player will be made before the squad departs for Mumbai.
The decision will be finalized once the medical team provides a formal update, but for now, the defending champions must find a way to adapt without one of their most reliable young stars.
