North Korea Vows Nuclear Strike if Kim Jong-un is Killed in Foreign Attack
North Korea has brought changes to its nuclear policy. According to reports published in the media, Pyongyang has decided that if the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, dies as a result of an attack by any foreign nation, North Korea will not hesitate to launch a nuclear strike.
To ensure that there are no policy-related obstacles when launching a nuclear attack from their side, they have altered the country’s nuclear policy in advance to send this message to the entire world. According to reports, the issue of changing the nuclear policy was raised at North Korea’s 15th Supreme People’s Assembly. Administrative officials there approved it. Following that, the decision to make specific changes to the nuclear policy was taken.
According to the revised policy, the country’s nuclear arsenal will remain under the complete control of Leader Kim. This amended policy details how the country would respond if any foreign nation carries out an attack on Kim. According to reports, if an attempt is made to attack the country’s nuclear programs or nuclear research facilities, there will be no restriction on launching a retaliatory nuclear strike. The report claims that this has been mentioned in Article 3 of the country’s nuclear policy.
The policy essentially creates a “dead hand” mechanism where a nuclear strike is triggered if the leadership is decapitated. While Kim Jong-un maintains absolute control, the revision clarifies the protocol for when he is no longer able to command. The policy also covers threats to North Korea’s nuclear infrastructure, not just its leadership.
