Nagaland MP Reviews CIH Medziphema, Assures Support on Pending Issues
Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir visited the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, on Thursday and interacted with its director and staff to review the institution’s functioning and key challenges. Discussions focused on manpower shortages, employment, local labour, infrastructure and coordination with the surrounding community. The institute currently has 17 sanctioned posts against 48 initially proposed, with only five permanent positions, including the Director. Jamir also reviewed the long-pending service-related case involving 12 employees who have been working at the institute since 2006 and assured that he would raise the matter with the concerned Central Ministry, subject to legal and administrative procedures. The MP stressed the need to strengthen human resources and expand employment opportunities through the institute. He urged the staff to work with greater commitment and ensure that CIH’s activities and achievements are effectively communicated to the public. Jamir also called for constructive engagement with local communities and youth, emphasising dignity, dialogue and mutual cooperation in addressing labour and other concerns. He highlighted the need to resolve encroachment issues through coordination with the administration and local community. Describing CIH as an important Central Government institution, Jamir said it should be strengthened as a centre for horticultural research, farmer training, skill development, employment and technological advancement for Nagaland and the wider North-East.
