Young Nadeshiko win 1-0 in Bangkok final; shutout run intact as Japan, DPR Korea, China, South Korea qualify for U-20 World Cup
Japan ended North Korea’s title defense to capture the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup on Saturday.
The final stayed 0-0 at halftime before Miya Hano broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with an individual effort, giving Japan a 1-0 victory.
Japan’s defense remained unbreached for the entire tournament. No opponent scored against them until the final. North Korea pushed hard for an equalizer but couldn’t convert their chances. Japan took their opening chance and held firm under late pressure to lift the trophy.
With this result, Japan and runners-up North Korea, plus losing semi-finalists China and South Korea, book Asia’s four berths at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
