Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Key Projects to Boost Assam’s Development and Heritage
Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress of several major initiatives aimed at ensuring balanced growth of Assam’s development and heritage, highlighting key sectors such as power supply, religious infrastructure and industrial investment.
The Chief Minister said the review was part of the government’s mission to ensure that Assam’s “Vikas and Virasat” move forward equally.
Regarding power supply, Sarma said Assam’s peak electricity demand had reached 2,950 MW last year and was expected to rise to 3,100 MW this summer. He said the state was fully prepared to meet the demand and had directed Assam’s three power distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted supply.
He also reviewed the progress of ongoing thermal, solar and pumped storage power projects to ensure Assam remains power-surplus in the coming years.
On the Kamakhya Temple corridor project, the Chief Minister said most legal processes had now been resolved and work would gather pace in the coming days.
He said the aim of the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor is to provide an excellent experience to the large number of pilgrims visiting the temple every year.
Reviewing Advantage Assam 2.0, Sarma said the initiative had received investment commitments worth over ₹5 lakh crore in February 2025.
He said more than 60 percent of these proposed investments were now in advanced stages of implementation, with some projects already operational.
The Chief Minister directed officials to fast-track the implementation process and said he would personally engage with industry leaders and stakeholders in the coming months to ensure that all promised investments are fully realised.
He added that these projects would become game changers for Assam’s economy.
Sarma said he was satisfied with the progress achieved during the previous term of his government and expressed confidence that the state would witness accelerated growth in the coming days.
