Assam Man Arrested in Kerala for Allegedly Hacking Social Media Account to Threaten CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Juria Police in Assam’s Nagaon district have arrested a man in Kerala for allegedly hacking another person’s social media account and using it to post a threat to assassinate Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in exchange for ₹2 crore.
The accused has been identified as Rashidul Haque, a resident of Dhing Chapori in Juria. Police said Haque allegedly hacked the social media account of Mobarak Ali, a resident of Gadaimari in Juria, and posted a message offering to kill the Chief Minister for ₹2 crore.
During interrogation, Haque reportedly told investigators that he carried out the alleged act to take revenge against Ali following a personal dispute.
According to his statement to police, Haque alleged that Ali had lured his wife into a relationship and later eloped with her, leaving behind Haque’s differently-abled child. He also alleged that his wife had taken ₹5 lakh with her.
Police have launched a further investigation into the alleged hacking, the threatening social media post and the circumstances surrounding the reported threat to the Chief Minister.
